Three out of three !
April 4th was the British Single Barrel Championship at the N.O.E. - 27 Squads booked on for the event. The day began on time but the first 8 squad faced a stiff breeze and swirling conditions that made the targets difficult, tracking the target was not the order of the day - quick and accurate decisive shots were needed. Andy Waddington again began to push for a front position as this was to be a defence of the title he won last year, although now in "AA" things are not going to be as easy, as Andy found out on the 3rd layout when 6 clays escaped the normally accurate Krieghoff/ hull combination! Finally the last layout was dispatched and now the waiting started to see if a score would come in to challenge the Juniors score. Tom Matchett took up the challenge and started in brilliant form and a high score was in the making - but in this game anything can happen and as with Andy one layout was to be Tom undoing. Andy became Junior Champion by the narrowest margin of 1 Clay! John Bellamy shot a perfect 100 straight to take the title - a marvelous feat in the conditions. Three 99's came in which resulted in a shoot off, Mark Shaw was to take the runner up spot followed by Rob Hall in third. Ladies Title was taken by Sam Sharpe. A brilliant day and i am sure enjoyed by everyone - this is going to be a special year and i feel records will be broken.
