Nigel Chapman Winner of the 2009 - 2010 Eley Hawk Winter Series

What! another year gone... After a long, cold winter it had finally arrived! NO not Spring but the day of reckoning the 6th and final shoot off for the Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series at the A6 Clay Target Centre.
 
You only need two scores from six events to get into the A6 CTC and Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series shoot off for a chance to win a share of 5000 Eley Cartridges and a TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch.
 

AA Class,
Nigel Chapman set the bar very high, slamming home a perfect 100/300 at the first event. Nigel was having none of it this year after coming second by just 1 point last year and narrowly missing the shoot off.
David Ball and Darren Newton also bringing home a very decent 298 at event 1, so it was wide open to a handful of the big guns. For the next 4 events Nigel's scores dipped a bit through the cold harsh winter 293, 279, 292, 296, but he managed to hold on to the top spot going into the 6th and final event, could he hold out and secure his place in the shoot off? - 298 was an improvement leaving him 2 points away from a perfect score. There were however a few shooters that could pip Nigel to the post, Emma Wheelden shot her first score at event 5 - 100/300 in some terrible conditions, could she post a 299 or a 300 - unfortunately not and finished the day on 291 - David Ball was still around and having shot a 298 on the 1st event could he shoot a perfect 300 forcing a shoot off to get in the shoot off (if you know what I mean) ooooohh nearly David Finished the day on a 299 but collected £100 High Gun for his troubles.

Nick Harris also set the bar high on event 1 with a 298 followed by another at event 2 - 200/596 nobody else came close in A Class so Nick was comfortably in the Shoot Off

B Class,
J Lucas started the winter series in fine fashion topping B Class with a cracking start of 97/285 at event 1 - J Gregory started his battle for B Class at the second event 98/292 but you need two scores to count. By the time we got to event 6 J Gregory had forced a commanding lead improving at each shoot and finishing with a 294 and 296 - 199/590 S Stock started pulling it together by event 4 with a 289 and improved at event 6 with another 289 - 197/578 securing 2nd place - S Bonati started with a 285 and at event 5 slammed in a 291 but could not squeeze the extra 2 points needed at event 6 to overtake Stan giving him 3rd place.

C Class,
Tomas Atienza was relatively new to DTL at the start of the winter series but it is great to see shooters pulling it together and blossoming as the weeks go by, a 288 at event 1 followed by a 289 at event 2 put him in a tentative leading position, but at event 5 it all came together for Tomas with his first 297 rocketing him up the leader board and securing a C Class win. Emma Holden - I have to say has shot the series very consistently and was one of the class winners on quite a few occasions this winter series (well done) finishing with a 287 and a 288 putting her second overall - Carole McGovern another of our fantastic lady shooters at the A6 can sit back and celebrate with a 3rd place overall position shooting a 282 and a 287

So, the time had arrived for the A6 CTC and Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series shoot off for a TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch.
 
A handicap system was in operation for the shoot off:-
 
AA Class N Chapman 1 handicap point
A Class N Harris 2 handicap points
B Class J Gregory 3 handicap points
C Class T Atienza 4 handicap points
 

So to the shoot off Nigel shot the line perfectly finishing on 25/75 but using the handicap points N Harris J Gregory and T Atienza also finished on 25/75 - the shoot off now goes into round two single barrel with Nigel Chapman emerging victorious and winning the Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch.

Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 2009/2010 at A6 CTC   Competition dates 18/10/09 1st Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 15/11/09 2nd Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 27/12/09 3rd Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 24/01/10 4th Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 21/02/10 5th Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series 07/03/10 6th Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series (changed due to World DTL in South Africa)   5000 Eley cartridges to be divided equally across the classes (Best 2 scores to count) The class winners of the DTL winter series will be in a shoot off for a Tag Heuer Watch   This will involve the 1st person in each class on a handicap basis   Handicap points for DTL are AA Class 1 point A Class 2 points B Class 3 points C Class 4 points Handicap example:-   Peg 1 in AA class scores 25/72 points plus 1 handicap point equals 25/73 points total   Peg 2 in A class scores 25/72 points plus 2 handiap points total 25/74 points   Peg 3 in B class scores 24/71 points plus 3 handicap points total 25/74 points tying with shooter 2   Peg 4 in C class scores 24/72 points plus 4 handicap points total 24/75 maximum.   In the example shooter 4 scored 76 points but the cut off is a maximum of 75 points and wins the shoot off. After the first shoot off round the shoot off goes to single barrel miss and out with no handicap points.

Eley Hawk DTL Winter Series Prizes of 5000 Olympic Trap Cartridges Class AA A B C 1st 500 500 500 500 2nd 450 450 450 450 3rd 300 300 300 300 Thanks to the Clay Pigeon company for co-sponsoring the Winter Series Shooters will remain in the class that they shoot their first event in for the winter series. - If you are re classified by the CPSA you will shoot in that class for the day events. - Unclassified shooters will remain in the class that is allocated on their first event for the winter series, however if you remain unclassified you will be re classed on each shooting day for the day prizes if you shoot competition. - The winter series prizes are available if you shoot Competition or Birds Only on the day events. - You must shoot a minimum of 2 events to qualify for the winter series if a shooter shoots more than 2 events they can use the best 2 scores to count from the 6 events. - If you enter both the DTL and ABT a shooter will only be allowed to win one watch in either of the DTL or ABT Winter Series
