Eley Hawk ABT Winter Series
A6 Eley Hawk ABT Winter Series Class Winners
From Left to Right - Ian Shaw, Paul Titterington, Mark Houlding, Geoff Hodgkinson, Darren Newton, Jack Metcalfe, Chris Bushell, Bob Gallagher
It has been a long, cold winter this year, but we have been kept warm in our hearts knowing that we only needed two scores from six to be the class winner and gain that coveted spot in the A6 Eley Hawk ABT Winter Series shoot off. A share of 5000 Eley cartridges were up for grabs and a chance to win a TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch.
For all those who braved the elements over the last 6 ABT shoots, we eventually came to the day of reckoning. With only 2 scores to count it was all to play for right up to the last event.
A Class, David Lloyd took a commanding lead at event 1 with a 95 followed by a 91 at event 3 - Darren Newton was some 6 points behind at this point with an 84 and 96, however a 91 at event 5 just edged Darren 1 point clear. Another 96 at event 6 saw Darren easily into the shoot off.
B Class, Jack Gradwell and Chris Bushell set the bar at a very respectable height both posting 94 at event 1 - John Blackburn took the lead with a 92 and a 91 after event 2 - Chris Bushell slammed home a 90 and grabbed back the lead from Blackburn at event 3 by just 1 point. Event 4, Jack Gradwell became joint leader with a 94 and 90 - B Class was jumping all over the place. Event 5 saw Chris Bushell improve with a 91 but Blackburn also improved with a 93, leaving them both tied as joint leaders with Jack Gradwell just 1 point behind. Event 6 Chris Bushell came home with a 94 taking the top spot in B Class for the shoot off.
C Class, PS Titterington took the lead and kept it until event 5, when M Houlding shot a 96 followed by an 85 at event 5 but Houlding improved even further at event 6 with a very nice 91 securing his place in the shoot off.
D Class, R Gallagher set the pace in D Class with a 85 followed by an 89 - improving with another 89 at event 3. G Hodgkinson tied the top spot at event 5 with his very credible 91 and an 87 from event 1 - it was all to play for. Event 6, Alas neither man improved, so we had a shoot off to get in the shoot off (if you know what I mean) with R Gallagher emerging victorious.
So, the time had arrived for the A6 Eley Hawk ABT Winter Series shoot off for a TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch.
A handicap system was in operation for the shoot off:-
A Class DM Newton 1 handicap point
B Class CM Bushell 2 handicap points
C Class M Houlding 3 handicap points
D Class R Gallagher 4 handicap points
It began, Buzzz! R Gallagher missed his 1st bird out, not to worry he has 4 handicap points to go at. Buzzz! M Houlding dropped his second bird out, only 2 points left in hand for him. Bang! Bang! lost Houlding drops his 5th target, he now only has 1 point left from his handicap points. Bang! Bang! Buzzz! and Darren Newton drops his 6th Bird out, all of Darren's handicap points are now gone miss any more and your toast. Buzzz! Chris Bushell misses his 6th Bird - the tension is getting to them (calm down it's only a watch) Buzzz! another bird gone for Gallagher, Buzzz! Gallagher drops two one after the other that's all his handicap points gone. They all calm down and shoot the next 15 birds each beautifully. Buzzz! Gallagher drops the last bird of the round.
We have a tie:-
DM Newton 24 plus 1 handicap point = 25 targets
CM Bushell 24 plus 2 handicap points = 25 targets (you can only have 25 points - extra points don't count)
M Houlding 23 plus 3 hadicap points = 25 targets (you can only have 25 points - extra points don't count)
R Gallagher 20 points plus 4 points = 24 targets and gets knocked out of the shoot off
